franken coleman

The trial part of Norm Coleman's contest of Al Franken's certification as the winner of the 2008 election for Norm's old Senate seat is now over. The contest has now gone into the hands of the judges of the Election Contest Court, ...(The UpTake didn't count the questions asked during Norm's rebuttal.) Final count: Coleman 26, Franken 18. Furthermore, the judges were at times quoting from Team Franken briefs. I think we know where this is going. ...franken-coleman-court.thumbnail.jpg While the Coleman contest trial winds down to the nitty-gritty, and Coleman's chances get ever slimmer even as the universe of rejected absentee ballots to be counted shows signs of tipping in ...On Friday attendees were treated to a fascinating lunchtime talk by Ramsey County Elections Director Joe Mansky, who discussed Minnesota's Coleman/Franken Senate election recount. Joe did yeoman's work chatting with us in the ..."We're going to follow the law with respect to the Franken-Coleman litigation and when and how a certificate is issued," he said. "The situation with Pennsylvania has no connection or impact on what's going to happen in Minnesota." ...Lastly, I leave you with these words of Marc Ambinder's: "Why, if Republican Norm Coleman is leading Al Franken at the beginning of a recount, are Republicans fairly pessimistic about his chances? It's the undervotes. ...It was my understanding that if he loses his case Coleman would have to pay all trial costs including Franken's. In states I am familiar with he would have to post a bond before he could proceed to an appeal. ...franken-coleman-court.thumbnail.jpg Nothing new on the contest side, now that the schedule's been fixed a the next big event will be the Franken Motion to Dismiss, which I would love to see happen but I suspect won't. ...4 billion hideously negative ads during the Olympics, it is my sincere hope that this recount drag on into February, and that neither Franken or Coleman enjoys any solid bowel movements during this recount. ...franken-coleman-court.thumbnail.jpg WineRev over at DailyKos, was filling us in on the post-court developments yesterday. The biggest case-related one: Coleman's people, despite having officially rested his case last week, were sending ...
No Iowas... No Florida... No Supreme Court even though that criminal Coleman in Minn tried to revert to type and deny Al Franken his win...

Q: Are Americans taking voting seriously?

By rights they should lose the Senate, but I keep hearing that they'll cheat and will make thousands of ballots appear out of thin air, just like they did to defeat Coleman and get Franken elected.

Will there be a civil war then?

Out of a job:
Carrie Prejean
Sarah Palin
Norm Coleman

Found a new job:
Al Franken
Sonia Sotomayor

and David Letterman: Got promoted: Now has highest ratings on Late Night.

Every time I see Franken time to keep a straight face I bust out laughing.

Liberals, name the top 4 conservatives you dislike the most.
Conservatives, do the same for Liberals.

I'll tally the results and post as a follow-up. The most insightful answer (not just the one I agree with) gets the Best Answer.

I'm conservative so my four are:
Ted Kennedy - Kerplunk
Barney Frank - How he survived his list of scandals I will never know.
Al Franken - Obvious theft of an election. Get some integrity (although I didn't like Coleman at all).
Obama - means well in his own mind, but a VERY partisan president, and has a completely different idea of America than I want to see
Ugg.. How did I miss Pelosi? You are so right. She actually slides up to number 2 (knocks of Kennedy)

BooYa!!

WASHINGTON a In the last chapter of a stinging loss to now-Sen. Al Franken, Minnesota's Republican Party has sent the Democrat almost $96,000 to cover lawsuit costs.

Republican Party spokesman Mark Drake said a check was sent via courier Monday to Franken's campaign committee. It arrived Tuesday, the same day Franken took his oath for a seat held open during an eight-month recount and court fight.

Minnesota law required Republican Norm Coleman to reimburse Franken for some costs because the election lawsuit didn't change the outcome. The judgment excluded Franken's attorney fees.

The Republican and Democratic parties have each chipped in to help pay candidate legal bills.

The check included $872 in interest that accrued in the month since Coleman was ordered to pay up.

The Minnesota Democrat's swearing-in marked the end of an eight-month political and legal struggle and drew thunderous applause and a standing ovation in the Senate chamber. His presence gives Democrats 60 votes, enough to thwart possible Republican filibusters.

And why the DNC and all current Democrats holding Federal elective positions, like Speaker of the House and Majority Leader of the Senate) should not be prosecuted under it?

Evidence: Every day that Soetoro is allowed to illegally stay in office, we are crippled more and more and it will be more and more difficult to recover our country.

I was thinking over the holiday and came up with something. What it entails is trying to find a Federal prosecutor to file charges against the DNC for racketeering under the RICO act. Perhaps you know someone.

Christine Gregory Gov Washington State (D) was elected fraudulently by non-existent voters, all with the same listed home address, voted for her along with naturally a lot of dead people. This was fought by the Republicans for a short time, then like Minnesota "To not further divide bla bla bla" and then caved.

Tom Delay, Texas (R). Had false charges levied against him by a Democrat Prosecutor. The charges were bogus. After Delay had been attacked publicly and, he could no longer effectively handle his defense and his public office responsibilities, he resigned and the charges were dropped for lack of evidence or substance. Replaced with a Democrat.

Change names and states, same story. Now it's Ted Stevens (R) and Alaska. Another frivolous batch of law suits, to be dropped after Stevens is forced out of office. Vacated seat taken by a Democrat.

Norm Coleman/Al Franken Minnesota. Al Franken wins with fraudulent votes. More votes cast that registered voters. Secretary of State an obama plant. Republicans surrender with "To not further divide bla bla bla and caved."

Latest victim Sarah Paliln. Driven from office by Democrats filing frivolous charges constantly to cost her personal money and the state money to fight. Another example of abuse of the legal system to political purpose.

Obama a/k/a Soetoro began his illegal activity in Chicago in which he used members of the Black Panthers and ACORN to intimidate other Democrats to eliminate any opposition to his start with the seat in the Illinois senate. He has abused the legal system ever since including using the same tactics to reach the White House and change the scope of politics.

There is nothing to keep you from being the next victim. Except those of us attempting to stop the lawlessness that plagues our current legal and election system.

If this isn't evidence of "Racketeering Influenced Organized Crime" I don't know what is. In this case obama is just the figurehead. By naming the Democratic Party as a criminal organization, as I believe it qualifies for, we would be going after snakes head.

How can this country have "fair" elections when one party is consistently and regularly violating and abusing the election laws and the legal system for political purposes. And accross state lines.

Do we want multiple crime families vying for votes, or do we want to force the Democrat Party to follow the law and clean up their act so that there is a crime free election system?

This all began with Al Gore and the election in Florida in 2000. It has blossomed like prohibition in Chicago during the Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly days. We need to put a stop to it.

Is there anyone with the integrity, backbone, and guts to enforce the current law in this country? Or are we, as I contend, now living in a lawless society?

i am having a discussion with someone on al franken vs. norm coleman. does anyone have more reasons why norm coleman is creepy, scary, evil and not a good guy? please give me real things he has done. thank you!
yes i know, al franken finally got seated. thank god. i knew coleman was a slimeball all along. i just want cited evidence, and more things he has done. not including delaying the election process. and that IS what he did...he has shown NO proof of his claims. ever.

Explain.

ST. PAUL, Minn. a The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state's long-running Senate race.

The high court rejected a legal challenge from Republican Norm Coleman, whose options for regaining the Senate seat are dwindling.

Justices said Franken is entitled to the election certificate he needs to assume office. With Franken and the usual backing of two independents, Democrats will have a big enough majority to overcome Republican filibusters.

Al Franken supposedly defeated Norm Coleman by over 300 votes. Doesn't that sound suspicious to you?

ST. PAUL, Minn. a Republican Norm Coleman conceded to Democrat Al Franken in Minnesota's contested Senate race on Tuesday, hours after a unanimous state Supreme Court ruled the former "Saturday Night Live" comedian should be certified the winner.

Coleman announced his decision at a news conference in St. Paul, bringing an end to a nearly eight-month recount and court fight over an election decided by only a few hundred votes.

"The Supreme Court has made its decision and I will abide by the results," Coleman told reporters outside his St. Paul home.

Coleman, appearing relaxed and upbeat, said he had congratulated Franken, was at peace with the decision and had no regrets about the fight, which started almost immediately after the Nov. 4 election.

"Sure I wanted to win," said Coleman, who called the ruling a surprise. "I thought we had a better case. But the court has spoken."

He declined to talk about his future plans, brushing aside a question about whether he would run for governor in 2010.

Now that the Coleman has conceded to Franken can we finally say this over and go on with our lives? Or will this be broughtn up again and again by people who think there was a conspiracy and Coleman did win?

Al Franken was once a professional comedy writer, and now Norm Coleman is a joke who doesn't know when to get off the stage.
Rhoda: Interesting I get an answer from someone with the name of a character on the Twin Cities-based "Mary Tyler Moore Show." I didn't know until after I posted this question that Coleman had finally conceded. Still, he waited far too long, so the question is still valid.
Rotorhead: You voted for Bush twice, didn't you? If so, that disqualifies you twice from calling anyone dumb. Particularly after the second time.

"Scott White is a legend... in his own mind"

Why are you so obsessed with him that you feel a need to yap a response, when you're too ignorant/cowardly to actually answer the question?
you claim that you "don't care"..yet almost every time you see me ask a question you squawk a response.

I feel embarrassed for you because you seldom manage to answer a question.

How did you get to be such a glutton for punishment?

The additional vote of Al Franken might prove to be the one needed to get things passed in Senate. Do you think he will help?

Should the governor go ahead finally sign the certificate confirming Franken?
So Matt, you think that all 5 of the Minnesota Supreme Court Justices are corrupt?
Jim...why do you have a problem with a Muslim Senator taking the oath of office on the Quran..that is taking a vow on the holy book that he believes in. Would you prefer that he do it on the Bible even though it doesn't represent his faith?

Or are you just a religious bigot who thinks that all Muslims are evil?
Jim...why do you have a problem with a Muslim Senator taking the oath of office on the Quran..that is taking a vow on the holy book that he believes in. Would you prefer that he do it on the Bible even though it doesn't represent his faith?

Or are you just a religious bigot who thinks that all Muslims are evil?

Or do you think Norm Coleman will start a case for another recount in the federal court?

To the folks who say he cheated, what evidence is there that he himself engaged in fraudulent behavior? Can you say, with certainty, that he lost the election? What do you have to back up that assertion? Do you have proof that Norm Coleman did in fact win more votes than Franken?

To the folks who say he won fair and square, how do you explain the irregularities that were reported? And for the purposes of doing everything we can to ensure that this was a fair and legitimate outcome, shouldn't the case go before the Supreme Court so that they can look over all the facts and make sure the right decision was made? Why or why not?

Just curious, haven't heard anything lately in the news, last I heard Coleman lost AGAIN, and he was gonna go federal. Let me know and you may get best answer.....

Like has anyone won yet? and performing the duties they should be doing? And why do people like franken..hes a creep?

If you say yes, don't you think it's time Norm Coleman step aside and allow Al Franken to take the Senate Seat he won?

guess that wraps up the liberal power structure, and we are filibuster proof. maybe we can get something done

ST. PAUL, Minn. a Republican Norm Coleman must pay Democrat Al Franken $94,783 to cover court costs for his appeal of Minnesota Senate election results.

A Ramsey County court administrator entered the judgment Wednesday. It results from the two-month trial that ended with Coleman 312 votes short of Franken.

Minnesota law required Coleman to cover some of Franken's court costs because the race's outcome didn't change. The judgment excludes Franken's attorney fees.

The men have spent $50 million so far on their campaigns and legal fight over the November election. That's more than double the cost of the 2002 race when Coleman captured what had been a Democratic seat.

The Minnesota Supreme Court hasn't said when it will rule on Coleman's appeal.

for the love of god! why doesn't he realize that minnesota needs representation. and al franken won!!!
there comes a point when you are not fighting for the cause. you are fighting just to fight. that is what he is doing. even al gore went out with more class and grace in the presidential election. and he actually won!
Bethany J: where have you been? do you read the news? NORM is the one who wanted those "missing votes" counted. they didnt include them and yes they were mostly for franken. because he won...

If you are following the race for the senate seat in November (yes LAST november, as in when Obama was elected) you know the state still does not have an elected senator mostly because Rep. Norm Coleman cannot accept the fact he lost to Al Franken (from SNL back in the day). As of most recent as all the ballots were re-counted (for the 100th time) he was still behind by at least 300 votes. Even speculation that if he is denied by the state Supreme Court that he may go to the National Supreme court. Even Al Gore gave up after loosing the electoral college in FL. Why can't he just let it go with the last shred of dignity?
In response of Gov. Pawlenty's decision not to run for a third term also has to do with the fact he is currently considering running for the office of the president in 2012.

Seems like this has been going on forever. I mean how long can it take to count votes?
What is the argument over now? Is there a valid complaint, or is it just sour grapes?
A lot are against Franken because he is a comedian, but I thought most senators are.

Norm Coleman had a news conference in November (maybe it was december) saying that Al Franken should bow out because he lost the race.
Now that the recount is over with Franken the winner and the local court battle is over as well, why doesn't' Coleman take his own advice?

I believe in his right to fight to the supreme court. I just see him as being a hypocrite because of it

AS ALWAYS! Please only thoughtful and intellegent answers with no ranting or "I HATE LIBERAL/CONSERVATIVE" crap

And Please don't bring up Barack Obama at all. This is about the Minnesota Senate seat, Not Obama
how is a recount stolen? everyone knows that there is a certain number of votes that are not counted accurately (have you ever tried to count 500 pennies one at a time?) and we are talking about a few hundred votes out of close to 3 million.so when the race is as close as it was. there is an automatic recount. that is the law, so dont say he stole it.

community continuing their fight against an unconstitutional ballot initiative like Prop 8, but yet are in full support of Norm Coleman continuing his fight over losing the election in Minnesota? Didn't the majority vote for Franken? I wonder...
Just take a look at some of the responses from the right wingers. Their comments based on hatred and name calling. I guess the point is moot, right?

Texas Sen. John Cornyn THREATENED a?World War IIIa? if Democrats try to seat Al Franken in the Senate before Norm Coleman can pursue his case through the federal courts. Should Sen Cornyn be thrown in jail and charged with making terroristic threats against our great country?

Can't figure out why Coleman didn't get in. He's done good for Minnesota and Franken wants to tax us out of sight, not to mention create more programs to help the welefare system to flourish! This State and certainly this country will hurt with another non-experienced liberal in office! ( you liberals won't see it until its too late).....

Could this go on for months? Or even years?

The state in which this election took place needs a senator. And the country needs all its senators.

Will there come a time when Franken will be seated no matter what court challenges the Coleman campaign initiates?

When will Coleman concede?

Maybe the state Texas is synonymous with unpatriotic arrogance. So Cornyn is willing to wage war against an unseated Senator from Minnesota? How does that benefit anyone but the extreme partisans. Franken was elected by his state, and has more popular support than Norman Coleman, that supported BUSH in every level of decision making, now how is that good for America? Should Texas recall Cornyn before he does even more damage?
Cherry, why doesn't Conyn and the other southern republicans call it what it is a religious edict. A Fatwa against the moderates?

When will Coleman allow this thing to end and let democracy take it's course.

I guess that when he does concede defeat, and Franken is seated, then the Democrats will have their 60 seat super-majority.

But isn't it still immoral and undemocratic for Coleman to drag this thing out?

Does he honestly think that he will win in the end?

Will the Dems reach the magic number of 60 seats?

I have heard that the election between Al Franken and Norm Coleman remains unresolved. If Franken wins, that would take the Democrats to SIXTY seats!

Or, perhaps another Republican will switch parties.

In any case, do you think that in the near future the Democrats will have their 60 seats in the U.S. Senate?
