who makes a good 9mm handgun? not necessarily cheap, but good quality and reliable. Manufacturers, makes, models are all welcome. thanks

So just over a day ago, or more accurately around 30 or so hours ago I shot a real rifle and a real handgun for the first time in my life. Besides one time with a 22 rifle and one time with a 12 gauge rifle I have never shot guns before. I don't know what the exact type of guns I shot were but I will give as much information as I can. The rifle was a semi-automatic ex military rifle with a non-wooden stock... and the handgun was a 9mm if im not mistaken. First off I WAS OUTSIDE, but had no ear protection (I know it was dumb i didn't know better). I think I shot around 2 or 3 clips from the rifle, roughly 25 shots... maybe less; and about 3 clips so around 20-30 shots from the handgun.
After I was done my left ear was almost deaf, and my right also very hard to hear out of. Everything that I heard sounded twangy almost like metal (if i snapped it sounded like my fingers where metal...) Within a couple of hours my right ear was getting back to normal, and no more ringing. But now, 30 hours after, my left ear has gotten much better, still a small bit of ringing, but I still can't hear out of it to well. Everything just sounds dampened somewhat. Keep in mind it has gone from not being able to hear much at all to just a dampened sound... but I'm really scared that my hearing might not come back. I'm joining the NAVY and within around another 1 week or 2 I have to have a hearing test done, AND have normal hearing. So do you think it will come back after a couple more days... or did my first time really shooting guns give me permanent hearing loss? Right now it feels and I hear as if there was some water in my ear in a way. And please if you repond to this give me a way to help maybe make it heal better, or a method to aid in some way, instead of saying nah your screwed please lol.

I know there's no specific gun suitable for ME until I try them. But I want to know where to start looking. I want this for self-defense; I'm a single mom and live on my own with my son and want to be prepared. I don't want a snubnose, I'm leaning towards an automatic, I don't want a huge kick-back and I want STOPPING-POWER...I don't want to have to fire off a whole clip to stop someone. I go target shooting with my friend and her dad and I'm pretty good with the 9mm and .22. I can make my mark within the first 3 shots, so i want something that's gonna take them down in as many shots (hopefully less lol). So what is recommended??

I would store this gun in my apartment (away from little hands) and I def want to do some range practice.

Ever since my aunt was in Katrina and she needed a gun but had hers taken away. So im contemplating on a handgun round, and possible carbine choice. I've looked at the Berreta handguns in 9mm and .40 and now they make a carbine in 9mm and .40 they also share magazines.

Is the 9mm powerful enough to take a guy down in your home? What about hotter loads?

the Rams? The NFL is proving more and more that they are just a group of elitists and narrow minded people who would rather have criminals than people with differing political views... here are some NFL Criminals

OL - Nate Newton
Newton was caught with 213 pounds of marijuana in 2001, then two weeks later was caught with another 175 pounds. He served two years in jail and has recently come clean about his smuggling days, stating ""It was all the fun the law would allow...and then some."

OL - Kenyatta Walker
Walker was arrested for disorderly conduct (a rather light charge for this list) in 2003 in New York City.

OL - Barret Robbins
Among the NFL's Weed Crew, Robbins went missing before the 2003 Super Bowl while with the Oakland Raiders. He was later charged for attempted murder, and was also arrested for marijuana while awaiting that trial.

DL - Dana Stubblefield
In 2000, Stubblefield was arrested after an argument between he and his wife escalated into a fight. He was charged with assault, though he insisted that only words were exchanged.

QB - Steve McNair
Arrested in May of 2003 for drunk driving, a search of his Lincoln Navigator later turned up a 9mm handgun. The record, combined with the 27,000 yards passing and 192 total touchdowns are good enough to make the team. Honorable mentions for this go out to Broadway Joe Namath, who was oh so close to making the list due to sexual harrassment, and Peyton Manning, who was actually one of those listed by a University of Tennessee trainer as among those who did harrass her, although disciplinary action was handled by the coach.

WR - Randy Moss
Completing the most feared receiving duo in the history of football is sports' ultimate road rager. Moss was arrested in 2002 after allegedly trying to run over a traffic agent.

LB - Lawrence Taylor
In the words of Rick James, "Cocaine's a hell of a drug."

CB - Ricky Manning, Jr.
Manning, fresh off a new deal with the Chicago Bears, and his posse allegedly laid down the law on some poor guy in a Los Angeles restaurant in 2005.

Robinson reportedly offered about 40 bucks to an undercover police officer for a b.j. the day before he was supposed to make his third straight Super Bowl start. Apparently, he had the baby batter on the brain and didn't want to go out with a loaded gun.

S - Sean Taylor
The budding Washington Redskin was arrested after an altercation broke out when his all-terrain vehicles were taken. He was originally charged with pointing a gun during the dispute, though he denied having a gun.

RB - Najeh Davenport
Probably the strangest of the crimes listed, Davenport was charged with breaking into a woman's dorm room and defecating into a laundry basket her closet. Criminal charges against the Packer running back were settled via community service in 2002, but the woman sued Davenport in 2004.

I first off want to make it clear that I am not some crazed lunatic thinking everyone is out to get me..I am a college student..live in a fairly large city and live in a new apartment complex...the city has a high crime rate and even though I live in really nice apartments things are broken into and vandelized here all the time..I was looking for a hand gun to keep near my bed or vehicle....I can not afford what I really want..Springfield xdm 9mm...and need a cheaper yet good alternative...What suggestions can you give me? ALSO..I already have a pump 20 gauge...pump 12 gauge..300 mag encore rifle with interchangeable barrels..2 50 cal muzzleloaders.. a 270 a 243 and a 30-6 semi auto for hunting but I doubt any of these would have good manuverablity if I needed to grab it quick or have it in a tight spot..so which hand gun would be recommened for me..on a budget..and also out of the guns I have which would be best for a backup in the bedroom
Edit- I am 21..have hunted for about 11 years..had safety classes in hunting and hand guns...

If I did any of the following:
shot the drive once with a .30 caliber rifle bullet?
shot it half a dozen times with a 9mm handgun?
used it as a clay pigeon for my shotgun (buckshot)?
removed the drive cover and bashed the platters with a ball peen hammer?
set it on fire for 1/2 hour with gasoline?
set off 3 grams of thermite on it?
opened the drive and set off an M80 on top the platters?
used a soldering gun (degauss device) to attempt to corrupt the data?
knifed the drive platters directly? (stabbing or slashing the platters)
used 80grit sand paper on the drive platters
dropped a drive with the cover removed into a sulfuric acid bath?
put a stick of dynamite under the drive and set if off?
welded a chain to the drive and drug it behind my car on the freeway for a couple hours (average day's commute to the city)?
stuck the opened drive in the dishwasher?
poured circuit board etching solution into an opened drive?
zapped the drive with a tesla coil?
ran it over with a tank?
threw it off a plane at 500 feet and 180 mph? (onto hard pavement)

could data be recovered by a professional if the drive suffered the listed kinds of extreme abuse or purposeful destruction?
an earlier yahoo! answers question about fastest way to destroying hard drives made me curious would shooting a hard drive actually work to permanently destroy the data? I recommended shooting the hard drive, I've used them for target practice before with good results, but I just want to be completely sure.

I'm buying a wwii era Walther PP online. I have an FFL but I have a question about how this should be processed or is it legal to receive it here.

Would this be a private party transfer or a Curio and Relic? It's 60+ years old. 9mm short with a 3.75" barrel. Nothing special.

Of course it's not on the list of approved handguns because of its age.

Can I receive this in California as a Curio and Relic?? or what about a regular registration with this gun? The california website only seems to list currently made hand guns..

??

My collection will soon either include a Ruger MKIII Bull barrel, Ruger KP345PR, Buckmark, or some relatively cheap 1911.

The .22 pistols aren't as fun IMHO, but they have a good place in a mid-volume shooters collection. I have tried several MKII and MKIIIs, they just don't get me as excited as the centerfires.

I have always liked the Ruger KP345, good price, comfort, comes with safeties, has a decocker, low recoil, accurate, strong frame, but I think .45 is kinda expensive. I also like the KP345 because it is easy for CCW, and it has that DA/SA trigger which is big plus for me in home defense or CCW. If it came in 9mm, then I'd be all over it. I also have a 1911 made by RIA, love the design and low recoil, but mine is in .38super. So I might sell it (ammo is way harder to find for .38sueper than even .380) to fund this new gun. I was thinking if I am able to find a good RIA or Springfield GI for sub 500$, that would be in consideration.

I would love to get a .22lr pistol, either revolver or semi, except for one problem. This will be the one firearm in my bedroom. All rifles and shotguns are locked up in another room, and I can't change that. So this weapon will be my home defense weapon for the night time break in. This made me think of getting a .357 revolver. I can practice with the .38 spcl rounds. Only thing is, how available are .38spcl rounds? This is my first time with a pistol, so I want to be able to practice a lot, and I can't afford two pistols right now. Is there any gun that shoots both a .22lr and something else more powerful? I'd be willing to get any non-magnum round (my range won't allow magnum rounds indoors), but want to have a caliber I can practice with a lot. Is a .9mm an option here? I'd imagine that bigger handguns might recoil too much, and be too expensive, to do a lot of shooting with. I'm completely new to pistols, so set me straight.
Thanks so far, very helpful answers. Gentlewolfspaw, I agree with you about having layers of defenses. Most of us don't want to be in a shootout in our home, no matter what we're loaded with. I have a tiny home, only 2 bedrooms. There are tons of big homes around me (not all alarmed, either). Finally, my wife usually watchs tv until she falls asleep on the couch, which gives the impression that someone is up all night. So I'm not too worried about a night time break in from theives with some form of intelligence. Am worried about some whacked out druggie, which is why I wanted some decent stopping power. Also, with my hands shaking and everything, want to be real comfortable with that gun. Thinking about that, I guess a longer, heavier gun pistol might be better. You guys have given me a lot to look at and consider.
SM, I love the sounds of that. I could practice all night with the .22, than make the switch over and fire a few 9 mm so that I'm used to that.
Looks like a good link, Gentlepaws. I only had time to skim the first page, but will take a good look at it tonight.
Thanks Chris. Didn't know about so many conversion kits, so that's good to know. I did know about the .357-.38.

Have the pump shotgun with 00 buckshot, but it can't go into the room right now. Long story. I have walked through my house with it, and am not comfortable with it. My house is too small, it's just too tight for a shotgun.
Oh, and by bigger handgun I meant bigger caliber, not gun size. My mistake. I know that the heavier the gun, the less recoil felt compared to a lighter gun using the same ammo.

I know my way around the gun world I just cant decide which way to go for my first. My favorite handgun, hands down is the 1911 model handgun, there are many versions by various manufacturers not to mention its reliable, accurate, backed up by the beef eating 45. and recently added 50.cal GI models 1 & 2 ((my dream handgun))

my point is that here soon Im going out to buy my first handgun and I don't think it should be a 1911, its a damn good gun but I need goals with my guns not to mention a decent model runs up to nearly $1000

Im thinking either a 9mm or a 45. but I cant decide on a maker or model...
Im looking at home defense by the way, I take rifles to the range the handgun is to make me feel safe...
I need a handgun with serious stopping power and a decent ammo capacity....

any opinion welcome

I am in the midst of figuring out what handgun I would like to purchase. I have applied for my CWP but have no weapon of my own. I'd prefer an semi-auto because most of them are lighter than revolvers and smaller. I wanted a .380 but I cannot find ammo for it. I have my dad's .25--can't find ammo for that. All I can find is 9mm and .38 cal ammo. The man at the gunshop told me that that is all I will probably find because those calibers are the most popular, thus the manufacturers spend the most time making those calibers. Does anybody know how true that is? And does anybody know if .22 longs are easily attainable? I don't want to get a gun and not be able to find ammo....I'd like a baby Glock but that's really over my budget. I just want something small, reliable, and with decent power...

Sold the big .357 and now I'm going to get an auto. Having kids around and a point and click gun makes me nervous (no comments about kids and guns, I understand they need to be locked up). A semi seems slightly more safe, at least there's strength involved in getting the thing loaded.

That said, I want ONE handgun (along with my locked up shotgun). 9mm and I've narrowed it down, but please let me know if you have any other opinions. The other things I need are manual safety or de-cocker, and not TOO big, prefer compact.

Here's the list:
Beretta PX4 Storm, FNH 9, Smith M&P, Walther P99, Beretta 92FS (I know this one's a bit big). CZ P-01 (I had one of these once, great gun)

Especially give me your opinion on the FN, I've haven't done a lot of research on these. Respected handgun?

Any other opinions? I was leaning towards the PX4. What do you guys think??
@HC

Good point. Are you referring to an XD?
Yes, I've thought of a gun vault. Part of the reason for selling the revolver is also just having something new to shoot. But the revolver always made me a little nervous.

For those of you who have multiple handguns, and those that don't, have you ever given any thought about acquiring handguns based on various needs. For instance, I've acquired the following:

For plinking: a 22 semi-auto
For home defense: .357 revolver
If you had to go into combat: a .45 ACP semi-auto
For concealed carry: a compact 9mm.

Do you approach this in a similar manner? If so, what choices did you make? Did you have other categories I never thought of. Do you have 1 gun that fills multiple roles?

In under 2 years I will be 21 and I plan on buying a handgun for self defense and also because it is my right too. I was just looking into glocks and noticed they have a safety different from every other firearm I have seen. It seems like after every trigger pull you would have to slightly remove your finger off the trigger and then re apply after every shot, thus making you shoot a few milliseconds slower than a regular trigger.

Is that true because if it is I might go with something more traditional because it might only take one millisecond for the attacker to do harm to you.
I see steel rain. Thanks for info.

Other guy- I meant like move your finger even more off the trigger because the little safety build onto the trigger has to reset too.

So far, the most popular handgun calibers I've found have been 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP.
The 9mm seems to be too small a round, with little to no "knockdown" as it were. Simply, the only good thing I've found about it so far has been its inexpensive and theres far less recoil than other rounds, making it easier to shoot.

The .45 ACP is a huge round, with more than sufficient knockdown power, but its almost too big...

The compromise has been the .40, its got good enough knockdown like the .45 but has the better ballistics, speed and size like a 9mm for shooting.

Really I just want your opinions, those are my current premonitions, but I want to see what everyone else has to say.

An obese prisoner in Harris County, Texas has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm after he was discovered to be hiding a 9mm pistol in between his rolls of fat, local media reported Saturday.

.George Vera, who weighs around 500 pounds (225 kilogrammes) was originally arrested last week for selling counterfeit CDs, according to the Houston Chronicle newspaper.

A police spokesman told the Chronicle that Vera was searched three times over the course of his arrest and booking at the jail but managed to conceal the handgun with his rolls of fat until it was discovered in the shower.

Vera has been charged with possession of an illegal weapon in a correctional facility, which carries a penalty of two to 10 years in prison, but is currently free on bail of 10,000 dollars.

What do you make of this?

I have a Hi-Point C-9 9mm handgun. It works alright, but its just so shitty. There is this rattling noise it constantly makes. I would like to sell it on gunbroker.com. I am curious about what steps need to be followed in order to do so legally?

I have too many guns in my home.

I'm most interested in these ten. I am looking for something that carries at least 15 rounds, is lightweight, easy to conceal, and is made of excellent quality for a price that won't make me go broke.
Please rank from best to worst.

1. Glock-19
2. FNP-9
3. Sig P-250
4. Springfield XD-9
5. Ruger SR-9
6. Walther PPS
7. Smith & Wesson M&P-9
8. Taurus 24/7 PRO
9. Beretta 92fs
10. Beretta Px4 Storm
Which is most accurate

if the army issues you a weapon (handgun) and that is, lets say a 9mm, and that's the standard handgun for soldiers to carry, can you buy your own, lets say .45 and replace the 9mm? Also when you get a rifle can you make modifications to them (m4) to suit your needs or just because you want to??

Used STRICTLY for indoor target ranges (not personal protection) My prefered caliber is 9MM and i'd prefer a lighter weight handgun with excellent accuracy. Budget is under $1500 and don't list something that is a discontinued model. I've shot the Sig and Glock among other and like them both.

Make and Model pls

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to fire a Springfield XD-9 with a 4" barrel. I really liked the gun and I liked the way the grip felt. However, I'm not hear to ask about the full size models. I wanted to ask how easy it is to handle a 9mm subcompact (made by any manufacturer). I've seen pictures of 9mm subcompacts laying in the palm of a shooters hand. They look like they were designed for keebler elves. The guy that I borrowed the Springfield XD-9 from said that he had the opportunity to handle a subcompact at a gun shop. Basically, he told me that it felt as if part of the grip was missing. Would you guys agree? With subcompacts, are you basically sacrificing comfort for concealment?

I have good news. It turns out that I won't have to schedule that road trip to Vermont after all. My dad says that he would be willing to purchase 1 handgun for defense. I want to get a 9mm semi-auto. I know that shopping for handguns is like shopping for shoes. I'm trying to make a comprehensive list of guns that I should handle to see which ones feel right in my hands. The factors that are most important to me are:

Reliability
Durability
Cost is $600 or less
Has high capacity mags available for it (mags that hold 25 rounds or more)

Factors that I will consider are:

Accuracy
If the gun can be chambered in multiple calibers

What are your suggestions? I would appreciate your advise.
Also, I'd like to add that I want something that's small enough to conceal.

Also who makes the best suppressors for .22 LR and 9mm guns?

I dropped a deposit on a Rohrbaugh R9S but now think I should have just purchased the Kahr PM9 instead. The Kahr is less money but I am impressed with the Rohrbaugh quality. Is there something I am missing or should considering before making the purchase?

I've always been "moderate" when it comes to my political beliefs and have been very open to suggestion from anyone, provided they make a valid point. Still, I find it hard to deliberate upon our 2nd Amendment rights.

That having been said, my question is this: How come the international media usually portrays the 2nd Amendment rights of American citizens as a negative liberty? I have not only seen this written in countless articles from "firearm-free societies" such as the U.K., but also from societies in which firearms are permitted (albeit restricted), such as Australia.

An example? I recently read an article written from scoop@theage.com.au, in which an Australian reporter visited a gun show in Virginia. Her report discussed the abundance of "military-style" assault weapons, saying they could fire 600 rounds per minute! (She obviously isn't familiar with the Hughes Amendment of the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986). She also stated that our Nation's mass-shootings and overall INCREASE in crime were directly correlated to the availability of firearms. I don't know if she's aware, but our nation's homicide rate is at the lowest it's been in twenty years, with "handgun violence" dropping substantially since 2003, and "other firearm" violence steadily declining since 1981! (Bureau of Justice Statistics)

There were several other annoying statements, such as the abundance of 9mm & 45mm ammunition (quite large!!). The current cost of the aforementioned? $400.00 a box!

Are these articles written simply to persuade the citizens of said country that their governments have done an "outstanding job" by restricting firearms? This theory would be easier to validate in a country where civilian access to firearms has been outlawed. However, in a country such as Australia where various handguns, shotguns, and semi-automatic rifles are legal (with proper permit), I wonder if the article doesn't serve another purpose. Your feedback would be appreciated.

(There are many activist groups in "the outback" which support the usage of firearms, such as the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia; however unlike the United States, most pro-gun citizens of Australia value their firearms solely for sport-shooting and not for self-defense purposes.)

Please tell me what you think of this, I worked hard on making it sound real and genuine. Remember, it's just the opening so I still have alot more to do. But I'll post some more tomorrow. Thanks.

DIE HARD 5

Opening Credits
Fade In:
Ext. New York Skyline- Dawn

The city stands in the morning daybreak; distant at first. Sirens can be heard from miles away as we move closer to the landmark buildings and structures. After a few beats, the noise dims to almost silence.

Ext. Times Square- Intersections/Sidewalks

Cars and taxis lag behind one another in heaps of slow moving traffic, as thousands of civilians scurry and dominate sidewalks and crosswalks on route to their homes or work. Other travelers are seen entering/exiting storefronts carrying plastic shopping bags, while the accasional smokers sit on benches puffing their lives away or talking on cellphones. On the corner, the usual street venders attempt to stop people walking buy with the tentalizing aroma of their newest a?producta. A fairly basic day in the Big Apple.
Cut:

Ext. New Jersey Street- House

A decent-looking bricked house surrounded by a low-level fence. We see a parked blue SUV in the driveway, four-door. On the opposite side rests a grey Toyota Tundra. Some neighborhood kids are exiting their homes with backpacks and heading for the bustop for school. They chat exitedly as they walk, friendly.

Int. Upstairs Bedroom

Sunlight sneaks through a bedroom window, illuminating the shadows more clearly. As we pan across the room, we stop at a nightstand with an alarm clock, digital, sitting atop it. It reads 8:29 amathen changes to 8:30 as music suddenly comes on; Itas My Life by Bon Jovi. Grunts are heard nearby, followed by a hand coming into view and trying to turn off the clock, to no avail.

Voice- (tired, annoyed)- Ahashi-What in hell is that shit? Fucking hate Jovia

The voice is of a man laying in bed, apparently trying to sleep. He finally presses the snooze alarm, but the whole device falls off the table to the floor, nearly-broken. At least the song stopped. Hearing this, he slowly gets up with his back turned to us and picks up the radio/clock to check it, then sets it back where it belongs. Groggy, he stands up wearing a faded white tank-top and dark slacks, and walks to the bathroom. Back still turned.

Int. Table- Pictures

As he passes a table, we notice some framed pictures lined up next to each other of a family; a mother, daughter and son. The son and daughter seem to be in their late teens, both with dark hair. The mother looks slightly middle-aged with brown hair and wearing a sweater. They look somewhat happy in the photos. Assumingly, this must be people the man knows very well. Next to the photos lie some framed awards of some importance, but the details of them are hard to see in the dark light. One could read from the Department of National Security.

Int. Bathroom Mirror.

The man enters and turns on the sink faucet, but we only see his mid, somewhat-muscular, torso. As he picks up a red toothbrush and sqeezes toothpast onto it, we pan up just in time as he brings it up to his mouth to revealaJohn Mcclane, late-forties, gently brushing his teeth with some paste dripping from his lips. He smirks at this, leans down to spit it out, then raises his head back up to the mirror and looks at himself briefly.

Mcclane-(calmly to himself) Yeah, john. Treat everyday like itas your last. But donat kill yourself over fuckin toothpaste. (laughs)

Closing the mirror, he walks out with a towel over his shoulder.

Int. Table

Noticing the photos, Mcclane goes up to the table and picks one upathe family one. Looking at it, he smiles then puts it down and walks away. On the other side, we see various items from his department; his NYPD gold-plated badge, along with his 9mm Beretta handgun, the 12-round clip laying beside it. Now the awards seem clear; theyare Mcclaneas. The DNS award reads; The Department of National Security awards New York City Detective John Mcclane for his heroic display of incredible courage and bravery in the prevention of the hostage situation that took place at Nakatomi Co. on December 24th, 1988 in Las Angeles, California. We thank him sincerely, and hope that further events can be avoided due to many innocent civilians lives that were lost on that evening. We forever acknoweledge your insparation to every law enforcement in this country. Dated 2-21-89.

So?
Well, thanks for the responses at least, LOL. Anyway, I purposely didn't start the script with action cause I wanted to sorta use the Die Hard 2 formula a little....where Mcclane is seen going about his day but encounters the situation on almost-accident. You know, I felt that this way by describing him in his home, that it would be more proper than just throwing in some action. Sorry, I just wanted some character moment, LOL. I'll post part 2 today, so come back!

Glock? H&K? Springfield XD9? Sig? Ruger? Beretta? Taurus? Doesnt matter whether its metal or polymer framed i just want the BEST somethin that is reliable. Any other brands im open to but i want the overall BEST

I am looking (FINALLY) to purchase my nest weapon. Now that I live in a carrying state I would like to purchase a good carry weapon. I currently carry a full size S&W 9mm. There are three viable options that I am looking at:
S&W M&P 40 cal
Springfield XD9 40 cal
Glock 27 40 cal
All are compact models. I just looked at the S&W today and really like it. All are about the same price, I just do not konw which to buy. Can anyone provide some feedback on any of these weapons and help me make my choice? I appreciate it!

I need to buy one for my SR9 and i need some options for a good holster? i want something that will protect it from the elements and be very ergonomic. I need some Makes and models so i know what to look for when im buying it????? thanks a lot for the help
whats better FOBUS or NIGHTHAWK Paddle holsters??? WHY??????

i dont want to sound crazy but it seems times are changing and for the worse. ive been in security since i was 16 illegally now im 25 ive never found the need or want to own a gun until recently. to be honest it feels like the calm before the storm with the oncoming assault weapons ban being proposed by the new obama admin citing that the ban will include many military ammo which is also same caliber as civillian ammo .22 9mm .40 etc. to the emergeny contingency plan passed by bush which allows the president to cancel elections. even the internment camps being set up built or retrofitted from military instalations it seems our freedoms are slowly being taken away. i recently went to turners outdoorsman and found 6 handguns in the whole store. Since that day ive been to 3 other "outdoors" type places that sell firearms and have gotten the same answer from the clerk almost verbatim ever since the day after the election people have been buying up guns. and to make things worse our failing economy is unsettling considering the everyday man gets desperate especially to not see his children starve. i dont want to sound like a religious nut or a conspiracy theorist or even a gun fanatic but times are getting scary real scary if i was religious id say the end times are here if i was a conspiracy theorist id say its the new world order and if i was a gun fanatic id say the govt wants to take away my constitutional rights but as a citizen i only know one thing im scared and i want to be armed just in case what do you think whats your oppinion on current events as far as protection what you intend on doing and how you plan on staying safe in the event something were to happen

WHO MAKES A DECENT ONE THAT IS LIGHT ANS COMPACT? P.S DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND DISCREET / unnoticeable HANDGUN?

I'm looking for a handgun. I have plenty of rifles/shotguns, but I want to try and find a handgun. I would prefer a 9mm, and I was wondering if anybody knows whether or not mossberg makes a 9mm pistol? HELP! thanks!

this may be a dumb question or common knowledge but I was wondering what company came out with the first 9mm handgun. Donat know why I need to know to be honest Iam just drunk. so enlighten me oh gunners of the yahoo world.

just wondering but include easy to use, features, reliability

im looking to have a pair of 9mm handguns custom made for me as a 21 birthday gift to myself. the guns are going to be stylised in the shape of ornately crafted flintlocks of my design. im currently working out the fine details of the designs i just need to locate a gunsmith who can make them for me, can you help?

I want a gun to use at the range and probably use with my ccw at times. I would prefer a gun made in the USA. Looking to spend up to $700. Not sure if I should go with a 9mm or .40 cal. Hoping to get model numbers to look into. I qualified for my State CCW at work with a .40 cal glock but like I say I would prefer something made in the U.S. What are some good guns to look into?

Does buying cheaper ammo make any difference over using the more expenisve stuff in a like a 9mm or .40 cal handgun? Accuracy...dependibility...etc.???

If you have two 9mm handguns (made by different companies) and you fire the exact same type of ammo from both of them, will you feel a difference in recoil? If so, what would be responsible for the difference in recoil?

im 21 and i've been shooting at the gun range for bout a month now and it's a hobby that is very addictive and fun and i'm a big guy so i can pretty much handle the recoil from any caliber of pistol, but now i want a pistol for personal and home self defense and i've done my research and at the moment the calibers that i've narrowed it down to are in this particular order with the 1st caliber being my favorite at this present time: 9mm(high capacity magazines [15-18 rounds],light recoil and easy to perform accurate follow up shots). 40 s&w(decent capacity [10-13 rounds], more stopping power than a 9mm, and recoil is still not excessive to the point where you can't perform accurate follow-up shots). 357 magnum(exceptional stopping power, probally the best among handguns, can stop an attack fast and usually only with one shot,it's a revolver so it's reliable and won't jam, but it has excessive recoil, which makes it hard to perform accurate follow-up shots unless you are a somewhat skilled shooter, and lastly it only can hold on average 6 to 8 shots). now that you guys know what my preferences are narrowed down to give me some feedback on my reasearch and what you think might be the best choice caliber for a young, up and coming shooter .

Going to be buying a handgun but price is a factor. I love Beretta's but i cant really afford it. Are Rugars a good buy? What makes them good or bad?

It is a blue finish, made in Belgium Fabrique Nationale (FNH) and the serial number is only 5 digits long: 3XXXX. I also have no idea what it may be worth.

Thanks to everyone that answered my prior question first of all, it definitely cleared up a lot of things...

So, I have done some research and am thinking of going with the Glock 27 .40 Cal as my first gun handgun. I will be using this gun as a concealed weapon and was wondering if anyone who owned this model could fill me in on the good and the bad. Let me know how you feel about it. My mind is not 100 percent made up however. If anyone can suggest a gun of equivalent SIZE & POWER, let me know so I can take it into consideration.

So for those who have the glock 27, let me know if you like it.
For those making suggestions for other models, keep in mind that I will have this weapon on me for around 8 hours a day. So, it does have to be a sub compact gun while maintaining adequate power & accuracy.

Not looking to get a revolver...&
9mm is isn't enough & I don't want anything that shoots larger than .40

Thanks guys

I'm looking to buy a 9mm for a home defense gun and possibly to CC. I have 2 shotguns and a rifle but am a novice when it comes to handguns. I am planning on taking a gun safety course. I'd like to know if anyone makes a 9mm semi-automatic with a manual safety and with a grip safety. I want both safety features on the gun. Any input is greatly appreciated. I've looked at Beretta, Ruger, Taurus, Browning, S&W, Walther, Glock, Springfield, Star, Bersa, Kimber, Sig, Hi-Point, and HK.

I was thinking of getting a handgun. I think I want a 6 inch barrel (which might be hard to keep concealed once I get my permit) because it will make me more accurate (i'm a terrible shot really). Now, I'm not sure if I would rather have a revolver because its easier to take care of and cheaper or a regular handgun. I know regular handguns are nice because they have clips and nice safeties and are easier to conceal. I think I would like a 9mm caliber because the ammo is cheap. 22 is really cheap, but not much power there you know. I wouldn't mind a bigger caliber, but that ammo is not cheap. What do you suggest?

I am in the process of buying my first handgun, a taurus 24/7 oss ls 3rd gen 9mm. I have been searching but have had no luck. I am hoping some one could give me some help.

TIA,
Gary

Like, back into the medevil (i m not really sure how to spell it) time? swords and such. And the rule is that you have to be able to carry them, no, you cant bring a car.
I would bring.

A MP5 Only because of its light round. durability. and to amaze Lancelot!

10 clips/magizines. full with 9mm Parabellum rounds

Extra ammunition. (about 200 - 300 rounds, loose)

A Vest. to hold everything (weapon wise)

Drop leg Hard panel Black Hawk Holster. for a Sig Sauser P226.

Sig Sauser P226 (because it shares rounds.)
3-5 Magazines for the P226
water purification system (these little bottles you put a couple drops in and it cleans it.. i think)

L96 with a ACOG Scope/Real Magnifying Scope (not to sound Call of Dutyish)
Only because: it gives me range. and the ability to change sights.

75 7.62 Rounds. 4 Magizines

Silencers for all, prefer not to blow my ears out. .Yes i know, silencers don't actually silence the gun. it just makes the noise more bearable)

A Compass.

extra parts for each gun. just in case of breaks.

Dragon skin (that new Kevlar that the pentagon turned down? only because the interceptor is way to heavy)

a duffel bag (to carry everything)

water proof matches

Maps of the area i would be in.

pen. journal pencil.

Knife. buck knife/survival Knife

whet stone

Sheath for knife.

a concealable handgun that uses a 9mm. im not sure i can name one
off my head.

ankle holster.

a Polaroid camera.

I WOULD say a GPS. but no satellites. so no help there

as you can see. Ive thought long and hard about this. so, what would YOU BRING? :D

P.S i obviously know a lot about guns!

I recently purchased a Hi-Point .380 acp. Because I was broke and it only cost $160 after taxes ($220 to make it CA legal) Because of the price(and lifetime warranty), I wanted to buy a Hi-Point 9mm for about the same cost. Except that my gun broke after 2 trips to the shooting range and it has spent more time getting repaired than in my hands. Should I hope for better luck with the 9mm? or should I buy a sling shot?
